(Part 1 of a Three Tier Workshop series)
When: Saturday 25th October 2008, 2.00 pm.

Where: Willie's Room in The Soutar House, 27 Wilson Street, Perth. You can park on the street; alternatively it's a fifteen-minute walk or five minute taxi ride from either Perth Bus Station or Perth Railway Station.

Speaker: Elizabeth Wein, author of The Mark of Solomon duology Elizabeth Wein's most recent books are The Lion Hunter and The Empty Kingdom, which together form The Mark of Solomon duology. Released in April 2008, The Empty Kingdom has already received glowing reviews, but it is The Lion Hunter which has earned Elizabeth her name. As well as being on the short list for the Andre Norton Award given by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America for the year's best young adult fantasy or science fiction novel, The Lion Hunter was also listed among the year's best young adult novels for 2007 by both School Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews.
Elizabeth has been an SCBWI member since 1991 (she thinks. It might have been longer). She served as Assistant Regional Advisor for the British Isles section from 1998-2001 and established its successful regional newsletter, Words & Pictures, which she edited for five years.

Programme: Making the Most of SCBWI, How to Tackle The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook, and Following Up Your Submissions!

What has SCBWI got to offer? Conferences! Competitions! Contacts! CONFIDENCE!

The SCBWI is a professional worldwide organisation with over 19,000 members, of which SCBWI Scotland is one chapter. The Society networks and supports those in the literary field, offering critique groups, workshops, conferences, retreats, and most of all a friendly and welcoming way to meet other professionals in the field of writing and illustrating.

Come along and hear Elizabeth Wein's many good reasons for maintaining her SCBWI membership over the years, and find out how you, too, can make the most of yours. Elizabeth will also give basic guidelines about the do's and don'ts of submissions (not to mention apostrophes), and advice on how to attack those daunting tomes of information such as The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook.

Cost: £5 for SCBWI members, £7 for non-members. The price includes the cost of your ticket and refreshments. Spaces are extremely limited, so please pre-book.

More details for the second workshop will be posted soon. If you wish to be kept informed of such things, please check out our website at http://www.scbwiscotland.co.uk and/or our Yahoo group

Hope to see you all soon.
